About

I’m Shi Chen Baey and I am currently pursuing my PhD in Cultural Studies at the National University of Singapore. My research focuses on the development of the local fashion industry, examining Singapore’s particular qualities as a fashion hub.

An English major by training, I received both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in English Literature from the National University of Singapore. Upon graduation from the National Institute of Education (NIE), I taught General Paper and ‘A’ Level English Literature in both public and private schools. I have also worked as a fashion journalist at the Singapore editions of ELLE, L’Officiel, Harper’s Bazaar and Style:.

Aside from fashion, my research interests also include literary studies, popular culture, public policy and urban futures.
