I’m Baey Shi Chen and I am a lecturer at the National University of Singapore.

An English major by training, I received both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in English Literature from the National University of Singapore (NUS) . Upon graduation from the National Institute of Education (NIE), I taught General Paper and ‘A’ Level English Literature in both public and private schools. I have also worked as a fashion journalist at the Singapore editions of ELLE, L’Officiel, Harper’s Bazaar and Style:.

I recently graduated with a joint PhD in Cultural Studies and Geography from the National University of Singapore and King’s College London, and my research focused on the development of the local fashion industry, examining Singapore’s characteristics and potential as a fashion hub.

Aside from fashion, my research interests also include literary studies, popular culture, public policy and urban futures.
